BNI works successfully because only one category of business or profession is allowed to join, thereby locking out competitors.  For example in my own group, BNI Prince Bishop, which meets in the Manor House Hotel in West Auckland, I am the only photographer.  In addition there is only one plumber, one accountant, one insurance broker, one electrician, one kitchen fitter, one life coach, one web designer etc etc.  Members of the group find and refer business to each other on a weekly basis.

BNI members learn a lot about each other and their businesses and, more importantly, what kind of referrals each are looking for.  That way, when we meet with our clients and hear something that one of our fellow members can provide, we hand over their respective business card and recommend them.  We do this with confidence as we can vouch for each others integrity.  In short BNI members get to know, like and trust each other. Membership of BNI is proven to be the world’s most cost effective way of getting more business.
